DSC experiments are run with the sample material contained in a pan. A variety of pan configurations are available. Three of these configurations [hermetic, nonhermetic (crimped), and high volume] are sealed using the DSC sample press. The following sections describe how to set up the press to accommodate each of those three pan configurations as well as how to seal samples in those pans. See Selecting a Sample Pan for recommendations on which pan configuration to use for specific sample materials and/or applications.
TA Instruments has supplied three different DSC sample presses:
Currently a gray Tzero press is being supplied.
Prior to 2006 a blue sample press was being supplied.
Prior to 2002 a beige sample press was supplied.
The instructions required to set up and use of the presses are slightly different. Click on the link below for your type of press.
The gray Tzero press is compatible with hermetic and nonhermetic pans. This press does not require special setup procedures. For information on the Tzero press see the following topic:
The beige press is compatible with all three pan configurations and can be used for preparing samples for either 29XX or Q Series™ DSC's.
NOTE: When the sample press is initially shipped, it is already configured for nonhermetic pan sealing. Only minor adjustment is required to complete the setup before use. See the appropriate section for the nonhermetic setup of either the beige or blue press.
Setting up the blue sample press for sealing nonhermetic (crimped) pans
Setting up the blue sample press for sealing high volume pans
The blue press is compatible with all three pan configurations and can be used for preparing samples for either 29XX or Q Series™ DSC's.
NOTE: When the sample press is initially shipped, it is already configured for nonhermetic pan sealing. Only minor adjustment is required to complete the setup before use. See the appropriate section for the nonhermetic setup of either the beige or blue press.
